🕰️ Back in 2001…

November 08, 2025 181 Views

A championship year that brought magic to Malahide — and now, nearly a quarter of a century later, that same spark is back.

Back in 2001, the world looked a little different. Harry Potter had just cast his first spell on the big screen, iPods were changing how we listened to music, and Google was starting to reshape how we searched for everything.

In Croke Park, Galway were crowned All-Ireland Senior Football Champions, defeating Meath with a powerful performance. Tipperary claimed the All-Ireland Senior Hurling title after edging out Galway in a thrilling final, while 2001 marked the first year the ‘back-door’ qualifier system was introduced in football — a shake-up that gave teams a second chance at championship glory.

It was a time of change, excitement, and new beginnings — both in sport and in life.

And here in Malahide, that same year, a group of young Syls footballers were writing their own chapter of success — bringing home the Minor A "back to back "Championship title and creating memories that still echo through the club today.

Fast forward to now our Minor A and Minor B footballers stand on the brink of championship finals this weekend, ready to create their own piece of Syls history.

Two teams. Two finals. One proud club behind them. 💙💚

From everyone across St. Sylvester’s — mentors, players, parents, and supporters — a massive best of luck to both teams.

You’ve already made us proud. Now go and enjoy it. 🔵🟢
