Critical Incident Response

Purpose: This policy provides clear, appropriate, and safe guidelines for clubs on how to respond to critical incidents. A critical incident is any event that causes intense stress and overwhelms an individual's ability to cope.

Key Steps:

Checklist for Response:

  • Consult with those affected to determine the level of support they need.
  • Convene a meeting of the Critical Incident Response Team.
  • Ensure consistency in media communication.
  • Be mindful of social media accuracy.
  • Check in with those involved in scheduled club matches.

Post-Incident Actions:

  • Liaise with families and members regarding funeral plans.
  • Arrange debriefing meetings and consider the need for individual or group support.
  • Review the club’s response and make necessary amendments to the plan.

Do’s and Don’ts for Media Liaison:

  • Do not give incorrect information or say "No Comment."
  • Prepare statements carefully and inform media outlets of any developments.
  • Refer to guidelines for dealing with media after a critical incident.
