Football

St. Sylvester's senior football team competes in the Dublin Senior Football Championship as well as the AFL1, having regained senior status by winning the 2022 AFL2 title. Our Intermediate team participates in the AFL3, and we also field Junior A & B teams, along with three teams at Minor and two at U21 for championship.

History

St Sylvester’s men’s football teams have a proud history of success, with their greatest triumph coming in 1996 when they became the only Fingal club to win the Dublin Senior Football Championship. Under the guidance of former Galway midfielder Brian Talty, they defeated Erin's Isle in a memorable final.

That year also saw them reach the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship Final, narrowly missing out on the title. Success at junior and minor levels has been a cornerstone of the club’s development, with Dublin Junior Football Championships secured in 1939, 1963, and 1989, alongside victories in the Junior B Championship in 1999 and 2014 and the Junior D Championship in 2009 and 2022.

St Sylvester's also triumphed in the Dublin Minor Football Championship in 1992, 2000, and 2001. Their league performances have been equally commendable, winning Dublin AFL Division 1 in 2010, Division 2 in 2022, and other divisional titles across the years. Youth football has thrived with recent victories in the Dublin Under 21 B Football Championship (2016) and the Under 19 C Championship in 2022.
