Juvenile Hurling

Well done to the 2014 boys who participated in a hurling blitz in Lucan today. There were some great competitive games for both teams in the sunshine, with Team Blue winning the Shield Final in Group 1 and Team Green taking the Cup Final in Group 2. Super stuff from all the lads 👏🔵🟢

Senior Hurlers Dig Deep to Edge Setanta in Physical Contest

St Sylvester’s battled through a bruising, high-intensity encounter to claim a hard-fought 2-27 to 2-24 win over Setanta in the latest round of the Go-Ahead Ireland Championship.

Played in a highly physical and at times intimidating atmosphere, this was a game where every score mattered. Setanta’s direct style and physicality kept the pressure on right to the final whistle, but Syls showed real composure and resilience to hold firm and see out the victory.

First Half
The opening half was frantic and fiercely contested, with little space for either forward line. Syls’ accuracy kept them marginally in front, Cian leading the scoring with a mix of placed balls and sharp efforts from play. Tommy and Darragh chipped in with key points, while Syls’ defence absorbed heavy physical pressure to keep Setanta at bay.

Second Half
The intensity rose after the break, Setanta closing the gap on several occasions as the home crowd ramped up the atmosphere. But Syls stood strong, with Cian continuing his remarkable form to finish with a superb 2-15, and crucial points from Tommy, Eamon, Sean and others keeping the scoreboard moving.

Despite a late Setanta surge, Syls kept their cool in the closing stages, grinding out a deserved three-point win.

Scorers:
Cian 2-15 (8f), Tommy 0-3, Darragh 0-2, Sean 0-2, Eamon 0-2 (2f), Dan 0-1, Ciarán 0-1

This result makes it 2 wins from 3 games in the Championship so far – a big step forward as Syls push towards the knockout stages.

Elsewhere in the Championship

Our other adult hurling team faced a strong Castleknock side at home today. Despite getting within 4 points midway through the second half, they couldn’t bridge the gap in time, and Castleknock pulled away in the closing stages. It’s now 1 win from 3 in their group, but there’s still plenty to play for.
