Broomfield Blitzes into Action – What a Bank Holiday Weekend! πŸ’₯πŸ’™πŸ’šβšΎ

June 02, 2025 541 Views

Over the course of three epic days, Broomfield played host to a festival of football, hurling, and camogie as our club welcomed teams from across Ireland for a truly memorable blitz weekend. From Saturday to Monday, our pitches were buzzing with young talent, community spirit, and the clash of ash and boot.

Saturday – U11 Footballers Kick Things Off in Style 🏐

Saturday saw our U11 boys take centre stage for a football blitz full of passion, skill, and just a touch of Irish summer weather β€” sunshine and a surprise shower in the middle 🌦️

The atmosphere was electric both on and off the pitch, thanks in no small part to the incredible support from parents and volunteers. The food tent was wiped out (RIP ham and cheese sambos), and the sidelines were buzzing with BBQ aromas and cheers.

A huge thanks to:

  • SuperValu Malahide – BBQ suppliers supreme
  • Wright’s of Marino – top-tier sandwiches for hungry coaches
  • Killian & Sean from the 7th Infantry Battalion – BBQ heroes
  • Haribo – for fuelling the sugar rush
  • 1903 – for essential catering kit
  • Joe Meade, our piper and parade leader
  • Ros Murphy – a class match programme
  • Referees – flawless performances all day
  • Our anonymous donors – quietly powering the day πŸ™
  • The Syls Social Committee – tea, coordination and great vibes
  • Our coaches and mentors – pitch-perfect prep
  • Managers Neil, Ros, Grellan, Dermot and their selectors
And most of all – Conor Horgan, the blitz maestro, spreadsheet king, and organiser-in-chief πŸ‘

Sunday – U12 Hurlers Step Up for a Sliotar Showdown 🟩 ⚾

Sunday was the U12s’ turn, and the lads didn’t disappoint. Facing down fierce opposition from Limerick, Tipperary, Westmeath, Meath, Kildare and Dublin, the boys showed real grit and skill throughout a high-octane hurling blitz.

Big thanks to our Juvenile Committee for their constant support, and to Tom and his army of refs, who were kept on their toes all day. It was a fantastic display of teamwork and tenacity β€” hats off to all involved!

Monday – Camogie Takes Centre Stage with the 2014 Girls πŸ’™πŸ’šβšΎ

And finally, the spotlight turned to our 2014 camogie stars, who hosted an incredible U11 blitz featuring 24 teams from across Ireland β€” including visitors from Cork, Galway, Waterford, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Kildare, Limerick, and our Dublin neighbours Fingallians, Na Fianna and Lucan.

Festivities opened with a piper-led parade, giving the girls a taste of the big match day magic, Croke Park-style. With nearly 300 players and a minimum of four matches per team, the clash of the ash rang out across Broomfield all morning.

The skill, sportsmanship and sheer joy on show made it a day to remember.

Each blitz was a glowing example of what makes Syls so special β€” our people, our pride, and our passion for the games. Thank you to everyone who made it happen and to every player who gave it their all.

πŸ’™πŸ’š We’re proud to be #ShapingFutureChampions – one blitz at a time.
