St. Sylvester's Camogie: Growing Stronger Every Year
St. Sylvester's Camogie Club is thriving as we celebrate 6 years of growth and success. With teams across 6 age groups and a record 412 registered players in 2024 (up from 363 in 2023 and 320 in 2022), we are building a vibrant community of young athletes.
Player Development and Achievements
- Academy Success: Each year, 70-80 girls join from the Academy, laying the foundation for future teams.
- Competitive Milestones:
- 2024 marked our first competitive silverware with the U14 Shield victory.
- The U13 County Final win created an unforgettable buzz for players and supporters alike.
Role Models and Inspiration
In 2023, Dublin Senior Camogie stars Aisling Maher and Kerri Finnegan inspired our players with a special training session. Their achievements, including a standout performance in the All-Ireland Quarter-Final at Croke Park, motivated many young Syls players.
Our 2010 and 2011 teams are now giving back, coaching younger players and becoming role models within the club—a testament to the positive cycle of inspiration and development.
Community and Expansion
- Social Camogie: Participation continues to grow, with Syls competing in 5 events in 2024.
- Schools Involvement: Camogie is thriving in Pope John Paul II, St. Oliver Plunkett’s, and Malahide Community School, ensuring a strong pipeline of players.
Looking Ahead
As our numbers grow, so does the need for more volunteers to sustain this momentum. The one-club model and equal focus on camogie in the Academy remain key to our success. Together, we aim to keep girls playing for as long as possible and achieve even greater milestones in the years ahead.
