Weekend Hurling Reports

Round Up from Inter and Junior Championships
Intermediate Hurlling Championship:Rnd #2
Syls 1-20 Erin's Isle 1-15 Broomfield 18:00 Sat 21th April 2018
Another consistent display from the Inter hurlers, 5 points ahead at HT, 5 points ahead at FT,only 5 wides. Great spread of scorers(8). Defended fiercely in the 2nd half against the wind conceding very few frees (2) and a couple of super saves from Dave Kennedy in the closing stages. Two from two in the championship, so an excellent start.

Teamsheet: David Kennedy, Ciaran Falvey, Graham Morris, Garret McGrath, Kevin Clarke, Eamonn McLoughney (0-1f), Gavin Wright, Alan Morris, Diarmuid McCarthy(0-1), Kevin O’Flynn (0-2), Killian O’Flynn (0-3), Alan Kenny (0-1), Dan Murphy 0-9(6f,2x65), Mark Landers (0-1), Sean Graham (1-1). Colm Byrne (0-1) for Diarmuid (40m), Mikey Meaney for Alan Morris (36m), Fionn Carney for Sean (50m), Barry Crosse, Enda O'Flaherty, Luke Hughes

Junior Hurling Championship C

St Judes 2-9 : Syls 1-9 Tymon Park 11:00 Sun 22nd April 2018

Our second team travelled to Tymon on Sunday morning to take on Jude's in the second group match of the Junior C championship. Playing up the hill and into the wind in the first half, we struggled to get going and Jude's tapped over a few points followed by a goal. We rallied after this however, and replied with a goal of our own when the sliotar was scrambled over the line after their keeper fumbled it. Once again though, Jude's pushed ahead after their centre forward drilled an effort from a good way out into the bottom corner, and we were down 2-4 to 1-3 at half time. The second half saw us put far more pressure on the Jude's defence, and with Martin tapping over the frees and Sean, Barry, Luke and Eoin Kennedy all scoring from play, we drew level with 8 minutes to go.

Unfortunately Jude's had a bit more left in them than we did and they got the final three points of the match to win the match by 2-9 to 1-9.

Junior Hurling Championship E: Rnd #1
Syls 1-14 St Pats (D) 1-13 Broomfield 15:00 Sun 22nd April 2018
A 6 point lead at HT was whittled away very quickly in the 2nd half by St Pats with the wind. It was all square with a couple of minutes remaining. But 2 quick fire points in injury time saved the day, the first a great point from Sean Drumm followed by a terrific high catch and point from Michael O'Dwyer.
Teamsheet: Liam Foley, Ciaran Murray, Killian Roberts, Aaron Walsh, Derek Roche, Killian Havertty, Fergus Rooney (0-2), Airy Cleere, Brian Walsh, Colm O'Connor (0-9, 7f,1x65) Michael O'Dwyer (1-2), Donal Hayes, Ben O'Neill, Evan Walsh, Sean Drumm (0-1), Cathal Rainey for Brian Walsh (52m).
