U13 hurlers lose to strong Erin go Bragh

U13 hurlers lose to strong Erin go Bragh

Decent looking game in Bridgefield, I only saw the last 15 minutes and Syls were pretty even and very competitive with a much bigger looking team from Clonee. I didn't get the score but think we lost by 4 or 5.

U16 Hurlers clinch the league.

U16 Hurlers clinch the league.

In the end it turned out to be a bit of an anti-climax as a conceded fixture by Na Fianna on Saturday left the U16 hurlers with no game. The lads weren't complaining however as it meant they maintained their 100% record for the season and more importantly clinched the Div 5 league title with a game to spare.

U/7's Impressive inaugural display in Broomfield!

U/7's Impressive inaugural display in Broomfield!

The 2008 squad had an incredibly impressive first outing of competitive (but very friendly) matches in Broomfield this Saturday morning. The excitement was palpable with many of the squad awake from very early in anticipation of their first ever game. Binn Eadair and Naomh Mearnog were invited to compete in this friendly football & hurling blitz, and they fielded 5 and 3 teams respectively. Photoshoot over, new club jersey's distributed and the squad dispersed into their teams. The wait was over and the games began

U11 hurling at Craobh Ciaran

U11 hurling at Craobh Ciaran

The noise of planes taking off on the easterly one-zero runway over Clonshaugh at the weekend didn't drown out the excitement of the U11 hurling matches against Craobh Chiaran. The hosts were both physical and skillful in their play and the first team struggled with the physicality at times. They showed great spirit and fight however, particularly after the break but came up short in the end.

U9 hurlers blitzing in the Castle

St. Sylvester's U/9 squad held a very exciting Hurling Blitz in Malahide Castle this morning. Under blue skies and glorious sunshine the two young St. Sylvesters hurling squads posted some very impressive scores against local opponents Trinity Gaels and Clontarf. In their first set of matches against Clontarf, both of the St. Sylvester's teams won 11 - 10 and 21 - 19 respectively, in hard fought battles

U15 A Championship The Under 15 A footballers displayed amazing character to come from behind and secure a five point win against St Vincents in the their A championship quarter final on Sunday morning. Syls found it difficult to get to grips with a very physical Vincents side in the first half. Our defence worked very hard and absorbed a huge amount of pressure. The Division 1 side however, had the best of the half and a Luke Peyton goal just before half time saw Syls lucky to finish the half only 4 points down.

Junior B hurlers still flying high

AHL 9 Broomfield 27th September 2015 St Sylvester’s 4-14, St Joseph’s OCB 5-1 A well contested game of hurling saw 27 supporters come out in the bright autumn sunshine. Included were some parents of the younger players while the older players brought their children. A couple of 3-generation groups were also there. After a strange first half the score was Syls 2-6 to 4-0 for OCB due to individual excellence by the OCB midfielder, Mark Finlay. In the second half Syls tightened up their game with Daniel Colclough excellent in goals and Matthew Rosenell making good clearances.

Dublin Ladies just a little short

Dublin Ladies just a little short

Congratulations to the Dublin Ladies on a determined display in Croke Park today but unfortunately it was just not enough to dethrone the all conquering Cork. Niamh McEvoy led my example up front, must have been her best ever display for Dublin, Nicole Owens foraged hard for the decisive opening after her introduction, it would have been great to see Nicole get more ball in space to create a greater threat. It was a great honour for St Sylvesters that our players again contributed to the biggest event in Ladies Sport in Europe. Hard luck girls, I felt the transition from defence to attack was just a little too ponderous to threaten the Cork girls.

Minors lose in Championship

Minors lose in Championship

MFC C Gr1 A heavyt loss at home to Erins Isles in Broomfield, Isles looked the more mature side, generally stronger around the field. We were within three points at the break but our attacks were under pressure and we hit a few wides while Is;es tacked on a few points and opened a gap, moving further ahead with two well taken goals. We did hit a number of nice points but never enough.

U14s into Div1 League Final

The U14A footballers visited 3rd placed Lucan on Saturday knowing that a win would guarantee us qualification for the League Final with a game to spare. All seemed to be going to plan early on as we raced in to a 3 point lead, dominance around midfield allied to some slick forward play. However, Lucan are a big physical team and managed to get on top and a goal just before half time meant we turned 1-04 to 0-6 down. Odran Monaghan, Jack Boyne, Cian Grassick and Daragh McLoughney being our standout players

U11 Hurlers go from strength to strength

The U11 hurlers played against Craobh Ciaran on Saturday in glorious sunshine in Clonshaugh. The two matches were very competitive with some fine hurling on display. The U11 have continued to improve with every match this season and most pleasing of all was the performances of new players who recently have started hurling including Wilhelm, Jack, Donnacha, Adam and Mathew.

Rhapsody in The Rain - The Dubs were brilliant

Rhapsody in The Rain - The Dubs were brilliant

I can't let it pass without a comment on the Dubs brilliant display in winning the All Ireland last Sunday. I've been watching Dublin since the mid '60s, played with and against many of the great 'Jacks are Back' of the '70s and early '80s, but I don't believe I have ever seen a more complete performance by any team than the lads that won Sam in 2015, maybe the '77 semi-final win over Kerry, that was also very special. The fact that the game was played in heavy rain also contributed greatly to showcasing the skills, ability and attitude of this team and the strategy and mindset of Jim Gavin as manager.

U16 hurlers into C'ship Final

U16HC C Smashing win over Wild Geese after a very tight first half. A goal just before the break by the ever lively Colm Casey gave us a bit of daylight over an Oldtown team with plenty of hurling. Defensively Liam Foley and Barry Crosse were excellent, Dennis O'Brien at centre back and Cian at centre forward but I better leave it to Jimmy as I don't know all this team. First year competing at thsi age oin hurling and doing very well.

Championship first round win for U15 footballers.

The U15A footballers secured an impressive 9 point win away to Skerries on Sunday. Skerries finished top of division 2 and we knew that our lads would need to produce a big performance to get past them. Each and every one of the panel stepped up to the challenge. Skerries defended deeply in the first half and were difficult to break down.

U11 hurlers good win over Setanta

The battleground was Bridgefield, the opposition were Setanta but it was Sylvester's performance that was more "Cú Chulain" than Setanta's as both Sylvester's U11 hurling teams won this contest comprehensively. Showing no signs of summer fatigue the U11s hurlers continue to improve with every game they play, showing great skills, team work and discipline. Well done lads and keep the hard work at training. Marc.
