Syls Adult Ladies win Division 2 of the League

This was Syls final league game of the season and a ‘winner-takes-all’ one as both sides went into the game undefeated. On an evening which was windy but dry, the game lived up to expectations.

Clann Mhuire played against the wind in the first half and got off to the perfect start with an early goal. Things didn’t look good for Syls as the speedy Clann forwards put the Syls defence under pressure for long periods. However, the Syls team settled and got into their fast running game and the scores began to flow. The half-time lead of six points was well deserved as they had missed a number of goal chances including a penalty.

Syls faced the wind in the second half and were put under sustained pressure, not helped by turning over a lot of possession. However, the Clann forwards were wayward in their shooting being forced to shoot from distance on many occasions. Syls made much better use of their possession with quick and incisive attacks and they continued to build on their lead throughout the half. In the end, the final margin of victory was comfortable.

All of the Syls players played well on the night and their inter-passing and speed of attack was a delight to watch. Sterner challenges will lie ahead next year in Division 1 but they should be well able to hold their own if they have a full selection available.
