Hurlers in playoff for AHL5

AHL6: (S/F Promotion Playoff) Realt Dearg 1-8 Syls 2-12 Sun 8th Nov 2015 Drimnagh. In dreadfully wet and windy conditions, Syls coped the better, coupled with a solid performance throughout the game gave us a well-deserved win. Eoin Kennedy delivered a very consistent effort throughout, picking off 2 points in each half. Sean Graham wreaked havoc, especially in the first half, scoring 3 points, setting up Martin Ormond for the goal and only an excellent save denied him another goal. His touch and control was outrageous considering the conditions.

Senior Footballers finish in style.

AFL1 St Sylvesters 1-13 St Judes 1-06 ?? Well, not really style as the weather was atrocious, but we finished the league with a very solid display, controlling the game from start to finish with some very encouraging displays, Beano was at his best at centre back, Gavin gave a great display alongside the ever excellent Ross, Conor Quinn again looked very tidy, Ronan and Collie Mc supported Beano well while Nockser was probably the pick of our front line.

Senior Hurlers relegated

After a season where we never seemed to catch a break, losing many senior players to injury and travel, we are now relegated back to Inter Hurling having lost on Saturday to Faughs. We have brought through enough players to feel we can come back up, I wasn't at the game yesterday but, apart from Na Fianna and Crumlin, I felt we were generally comfortable at this level and I hopewe can quickly regroup. Credit is due to Leonard, Declan, Pat and Eamon Bryce for our first year in Senior League

U14s just pipped in Div1 Final

U14s just pipped in Div1 Final

U14 D1 Football League Final. Something like Whitehall Gaels 3-12 St Sylvesters 2-13 Smashing game of football with all skills on display, the lead changing hands five or six times. Syls played a super first half into a cold wind but we spurned a few good goal chances tat would have given us a deserved lead at the break and, instead, we trailed by four. We quickly regained the lead after the break and raced ahead by five only to take our foot off the gas and Whitehall fought their way back, a very late goal giving them a lead we had no time to overcome. There was a great Syls crowd at the game and we were all very disappointed for our team, convinced we should have taken it. Of course we can only congratulate Whitehall who never lay down, they are a fine team and worthy champions.

Expanding our Ball Wall Facility

We are in the process of completing the "other side" of the ball wall to effectively double the number of children/players who can use the facility at one time. This will be a particularly useful benefit to children training in hurling or football on dark or wet evenings. As always these works cost money and to assist the process, a special raffle which will be held on the night of St Sylvester's Gala Night on the 14th November. All proceeds from this raffle will go towards this project.

Thanks for securing the Sports Grant

As most of you are aware we received a grant of €120,000 to erect floodlights on our pitches in Broomfield. This is part of our overall plan for to improve facilities in St Sylvesters. At this point, I think it important that we recognise the amount of work that went into securing this fantastic opportunity for St Sylvesters. So I want to thank the people that worked with me on the Broomfield Development Committee and indeed are committed to continue lead this process.

U16 hurlers win Championship in a cracker

Congratulations to the U16s winning the Championship and their league in their first year hurling. The lads were disappointed to win the league without having to play two weeks ago but they had to make up for it today winning a helter skelter encounter with a fine St Peregrines by two points after extra time over in O'Toole Park. John Crosse or Jimmy will send a report and pictures but I wonder did anyone catch captain Colm Casey's initation of Joe McDonagh with his acceptance speech as gaeilge, I'm told it was pure Colm, maith fear.

Syls and Nmh Marnóg host Gaelic4Mothers

Syls and Naomh Marnóg hosted the biggest event in Ladies Football with the Gaelic 4 Mothers catering for 1,600 players on Saturday. Congratulations to all on a great event. What a pity we do not have our own teams playing these past few years. We really need some mentors to get this super initiative going in Malahide again, This must be one of the great initiatives in ladies games and it's great that we provide facilities and support but it would be even better if Syls were playing again. See the report from LadiesGaa and pictures from Peter Hickey.

Relief as Senior Footballers retain Div1 status

Relief as Senior Footballers retain Div1 status

AFL1 St Brigids 2-12 St Sylvesters 3-10 Although we led from start to finish, sometimes by 7 or 8 points, we were again happy to scrape over the line by the minimum margin and ensure we avoid the relegation lottery. We played some lovely deciisive football, especially in th efirst half where Jack opened with a goal and a point, Barry replaced Gary very early (I didn't see what happened), Michael, Dave Sexton, Nockser all hitting good points. Gavin and Ross were excellent in the middle while a new look defense had to cope with a very talented Brigids forward division.

U9s finish well

U9s finish well

Well it was the final home game of the season for the 2006 St.Sylvester's U/9 squad this morning in Malahide Castle. In bitterly cold weather, the teams played out 3 very exciting matches against Erin's Isle. While it was great to see the boys coming out on top in all 3 matches, it is even more satisfying to witness their growing confidence and sportsmanship. Well done boys and we will see you all again next Saturday.

U15A Footballers finish season with a brave effort in championship semi final

U15A Footballers finish season with a brave effort in championship semi final

The U15A footballers put up a spirited performance on Sunday morning against Whitehall in our A championship semi final in Bridgefield. The lads never looked out of place against a Whitehall side that finished 2nd in Division 1 this year. The game was still in the balance until the last 15 minutes when Whitehall's experience at this level saw them finish out the stronger side. Having beaten Division 2 champions Skerries in the first round and St Vincents in the quarter final these lads know the level at which they can perform and if they stick together and train hard through the winter they can be sure of giving Division 2 and U16s championship a real go next year.

Junior Hurlers up to second in AHL6

AHL9: Syls 3-9 Round Towers (C) 2-12 Sun 11th Oct 2015 Broomfield Towers are unbeaten and top this league, Syls doing well also in 3rd position and well in contention for a playoff spot so both teams had all to for and they didn’t disappoint. We were treated to a very entertaining and sporting match. The lead changed hands several times with never more than a point in it so when Towers went 2 up with FT approaching things looked ominous.

Determined display not enough in U15A C SF

Determined display not enough in U15A C SF

U15A Football Championship Semi Final St Sylvesters 1-06 Whitehall Colmcilles 1-16 I was surprised the margin crept up so much as we were very competitive until the last 10 minutes in a very entertaining game in Bridgefield with a good crowd and a lovely sunny morning. We led for a good period of the first half but a bigger Whitehall sitting on top of Div1 were always able to take good points and got aheah 0-08 to 1-04 at the break. We stayed close for the third quarter but unfortunately missed the few opportunities we made while Whitehall broke away for a good goal and closed the game out. I think everyone present enjoyed a good skillful sporting game and good luck to Whitehall in the Final.
