Junior As lose to Realt Dearg

Junior As lose to Realt Dearg

AHL6: Realt Dearg 1-16 St Sylvesters 1-11, Sun 10 April 2016, Drimnagh Castle. Never more than a puck of the ball between these two teams and on this occasion Realt came out on top. We started slowly playing with wind and even though we had a 5 point advantage at half time , it left us with a big 2nd half challenge playing into a strong wind. Main damage was done in that 3rd quarter when we struggled to win our own puckouts. Realt punished us scoring 1-4 to 0-1 in that period.

Inter hurlers good win but both junior teams lost

AHL3 St Sylvesters 1-19 Scoil UiChonail 0-10 Very solid league opener for the Inters, Alan Kenny and Diarmuid McCarthy lording the middle, our backline holding the Scoil forwards, Enda back to his best and Martin Ormonde and Ciaran Falvey the pick of the forwards. Unfortunately Gregs juniors were beatan at Drimnagh Castle by Realt Dearg and the Bs came up against a good Towers team in the afternoon.

Sinead Aherne top scorer in Dublin V Galway NFL game in Parnell Park

Dublin Ladies suffered their second defeat in a row in the National Football League against Galway, scoring 1-14 to Galway’s 4-11. Galway deserved their victory, being much more adept at carving a way through the Dublin defence than vice versa, with some Dublin players making too many basic handling and passing errors.

U16 A FC ST JUDES 2-10 - 3-9 ST SYLVESTERS A - U16 D FC ST SYLVESTERS B 2-4 - 4-9 BALLINTEER ST JOHNS B The A team recorded an impressive away at Judes, never an easy assignment. We led well at half time but Judes came back strong and made us work for tthe win in the second half. In the D Championship we stayed with Ballinteer, just three points down with about ten minutes remaining but, despite two great saves by our keeper, Johns finished strongly with some good scores.

U14 F D2 St Sylvesters 4-08 Naomh Olaf 3-08 Great game where the lead changed hands regularly but we came out on top by a goal. Good crowd for a classic Bridgefield Saturday afternoon. Maybe one of the lads will send a report.

U13Bs great win over Na Fianna

U13B Syls V Na Fianna The U13B Footballers got their Div7 League campaign off to an impressive start with an 8-9 to 1-5 victory against Na Fianna in Bridgefield on Saturday afternoon. "St. Sylvester's under 12 footballers had a great win over Lucan Sarsfield to top their grading group and secure division 1 football. it was a wet day in Bridgefield and a tough physical battle. In the end Syls had to much class for their opponents and finished 5 points up. Congrats to all 3 under 12 teams that finished either first or second in their grading groups." Thanks, Podge

Senior Ladies start season

The Senior Ladies footballers started their season with a game against Castlknock on Monday evening. This was moved from Wednesday so we were short some regulars and filled up with some very young minors. Up against a seasoned Castleknock team with some very experienced players, we faced a tough challenge. However, we acquitted ourselves well, played some nice attacking football when we were let and scored 2-6 in the process.

U12 football going very well

U12 football going very well

On Saturday, both the B &C Squads played Cuala and had great performances. The C's played at home in Bridgefield while the B's headed to Cuala. The U12 A's had a narrow and tight win against Lucan Sarsfields also in Birdgefield where Peter Hickey was on hand to catch some wonderful action pictures. We'll have to get Peter up early again to catch the B team at home, that's a promise.

Girls under -14s at Féile 2016

Girls under -14s at Féile 2016

Our girls performed heroically at Thomas Davis on Saturday in wet and mucky conditions in Tallaght. Although we did not progress to the finals we were more than competitive in all our games and indeed lost two of them by only the closest of margins. Despite the conditions it was a great experience for us both on, and off, the field.

Syls girls all score as Dublin Ladies lose to Armagh

Dublin Ladies lost by the narrowest of margins to Armagh in the NFL at the Athletic Grounds today, (Sunday), Armagh 2-10, Dublin 3-6 . All three Syls girls started and contributed to the score line, Sinead Aherne and Niamh McEvoy 1-1 each, Nicole Owens 0-1. Dublin made the brighter start with Sinead scoring a brilliant goal after 5 minutes with a perfectly timed run to receive a pass from Lindsay Davey who had made a strong run up the middle.

Seniors draw with Castlenock

AFL1 St Sylvesters 0-06 Castlenock 0-06 Tight game where we trailed fro most of the game against a well organised tidy looking Castlenock. Gary Sweeney opened with a lovely long range point, but generally our forward play was a bit ponderous and we didn't threaten their goal. Shane and Ross worked really hard and kept us in it in the middle while the defense saved us this week, Michael Shields, John Peacock and Barry Ryan all making decisive saves, great to see Collie Mc back and going well and Dave Galvin also finding form after a long injury. Both sides probably happy enough with a draw in awful wet conditions.

Minor hurlers win high scoring encounter

MHL2 St Sylvesters 4 - 11. Thomas Davis 4 - 7 The Syls boys got off to a slow start here in rain soaked pitch 1 in Broomfield . Playing against a strong breeze the Syls mentors took a gamble by going all out for a couple of early goals. This didn't work out for Syls as we conceded a couple of soft goals midway through the first half so plans had to change

Inters win at Ballyboden

AFL3 I don't see the result posted yet but I hear the Inters had a good win away to Boden and we had a lot of players back. Word is there will be no living with Meaner but fair play as we had a rocky start and are clearly getting it together now.

Easter Camps huge success

Easter Camps huge success

We only started the Easter Camps about 5 years ago but they have quickly become one of our most popular annual events and with the weather blessing us we set record numbers for participation. Due to popularity we had to close numbers for the camp so we would ask anyone wishing to book summer camps to do so as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

U14 girls played St Pats Wicklow on Good Friday

U14 girls played St Pats Wicklow on Good Friday

Good Friday last was a big day for our under-14 girls. A top team from Wicklow, St. Patrick’s GAA Club had contacted us and challenged us to a game in preparation for Féile 2016. They are a division one team with a good track record and a top place in their division in the league in Wicklow We agreed to play them and to welcome them to Sylvester’s as we, too, are Féile-bound next weekend (Thomas Davis in Tallaght) and a tough challenge was what what we needed. We got permission from the powers that be in the LGFA to play an inter-county match, booked the referee, and we were ready to go.

junior hurlers win over Raheny

junior hurlers win over Raheny

Classic game of two halves, 10 points to nil for Syls at HT. 1-5 a piece in the 2nd half, but ran out comfortably enough winners in the end.(1-15 to 1-5). Syls fielded a very young team , 10 or 12 starting players under 20. However the introduction of Ciaran Murray brought the average age up a tad ..! Highlights were Sean Foleys display at full back and a very skilful full forward line of EoinMc, Daniel Murphy and Seanie Graham Team: David Kennedy, Killian Roberts, Sean Foley, Eoin Ryan , Ciaran Murphy, Ronan Kennedy, Colm Boran (0-7 f), Mikey Meaney, Jodi Hickey, Shane Mc Shera, Johnny Conway, Eoin Kennedy, Sean Graham (1-1), Eoin Mc Carthy (0-4), Daniel Murphy (0-3), Russie Cleere for Ciaran Murphy, Ciaran Murray for Killian Roberts, Airy Cleere for Shane Mc Shera

The Minor As beat Nmh Marnóg in mid-week following a win away to Raheny and a loss by a point to Vincents in their opening game. Results for CCC2 u13-u16

I look forward to watching their games on Saturday afternoons, The U13B team had a narrow loss in a highly competitive game. This can be an excellent gtrade as it usually represents the best of primary school football. TheU14s drew both games against Erin go Brath and Skerries in Div2 and Div8. The U15s continued to find is tough, losing to Castlenock in Div1 and to St Peters in Div7. The U16s had a good win away to Parnells in Div2 but lost to Lucan in Div7.

Inter hurling v Towers match abandoned

Inter hurling v Towers match abandoned

AHL3 Round Towers C v St Sylvesters The match was abandoned after about 25 minutes because one of the Towers lads dislocated his knee and we had to wait for an ambulance. We wish him well. It was great that we had Fergus Byrne in attendance and he administered professional aid which limited the damage. We were behind by three points at the time but one really bright aspect was Dan Murphy's very lively display at corner forward.
