Disappointment for Syls in Intermediate Hurling Championship Opener

It was a game of two halves this evening in Finglas as our Senior Hurlers travelled to meet Erins Isle for the opening round of the Intermediate Hurling Championship. FT: Erins Isle 2-14 Syls 1- 11

The Syls men started strong with two quick points followed by a sensational goal by Sean Graham in the 5th minute. Maintaining much of the possession, Syls went into half time with a four point lead following some fantastic free-taking from Dan Murphy.

As the second half opened the Isles men came out fighting and a push for goal saw the Finglas men finally hit the back of the net.  The loss of Eamonn McLoughney and then Diarmuid McCarthy to the sideline following some heavy tackles took its toll as Isles took advantage with additional points that gave them the lead.  A second goal by Isles gave them the added confidence they needed and left our men with a gap too large to make up despite their efforts and two points scored from frees.  Despite the loss, the Sylvester's players showed great skill and an impressive performance that will carry them through the rest of the Championship.

Panel: L Foley (goal), B Crosse, G Morris, K Falvey, K Clarke, E McLoughney, D Deneher, D McCarthy,

G McGrath, L. Hughes, Killian O'Flynn, Kevin O'Flynn, S Graham, A Kenny, D Murphy, Liam Shalloe  (awaiting full subs list)
