AHL Weekend Match Reports

The 2018 adult hurling league commenced on Sunday with a strong Syls represention fielding 3 teams, competing in 3rd, 6th and 8th Divisions. A great start to the season too, with all three teams achieving wins. With all matches at home, it was wall to wall hurling in Broomfield on Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Fine, bright, crisp weather with pitches in good condition made for three very competitive and enjoyable matches

AHL3: 10am, Broomfield - Sun 25th February 2018

A strong breeze made this the classic example of game of 2 halves. With the wind we played some fine free flowing hurling and were ahead 1-12 to 0-4 at HT. Against the wind we only managed 2 points while Thomas Davis posted 9 , which made for a very tense final few minutes. Teamsheet: David Kennedy, Ciaran Falvey, Graham Morris, Kevin Clarke, Gavin Wright, Dave McElligot, Garret McGrath (0-1), Alan Morris, Diarmuid McCarthy, Eamonn McLoughney (0-1), Sean Graham (0-2). Mikey Meaney for Diarmuid (42m) Eoin Kennedy for Seanie (51m)

Final Score: Syls 1-14 Thomas Davis 0-13

AHL6: 12 noon, Broomfield -Sunday 25th February 2018

A very good team performance. Forwards worked their socks off to put pressure on their backs, and our backs put their bodies on the line to prevent a couple of goal chances. We led by a point at half time having played against the wind, and a second goal midway through the second half put us in a good position. Vincents rallied a bit, but every time they got a point, we went down and got one back. We conceded a last minute goal but overall a good performance, and with a nice blend of youth and experience, we can look forward to the season with confidence. Barry, Shane, Jody and Dave Casey all got a point, Luke maybe two and Martin the rest.

Teamsheet: Anto Dunne, Podge Sheehan, Ronan Kennedy, Philip Ryan, Barry Crosse, Derek Morris, Padraic Kennedy, Eoin Ryan, Jodi Hickey, Pats O’Leary, Luke Hughes, Stephen Keogh, Eoin Kennedy, Martin Ormonde, Shane McShera, Dave Casey.

Final Score: Syls 2-9 St Vincents 1-10

AHL8: 14:30, Broomfield - Sunday 25th February 2018

Ably managed by Syls stalwarts Danny O’Connor and Jim Wardick, this was an excellent all round team performance. Syls led 1-8 to 0-5 at HT playing against the breeze but kept up the tempo and pressure in the 2nd half to run out comfortable enough winners in the end.

Teamsheet: Fergus Rooney, Eoin Manning, Ciaran Murray, Aaron Walsh, Gary Plunkett, Eoin McLafferty, Cathal Manning, Johnny Conway (1-4), Brian Walsh, Evan Walshe (0-1), Colm O’Connor (0-7, 3f, 1x65), Declan Markey(1-2), Claude Scully, Patrick Moyihan, Killian Roberts.

Final Score: Syls 2-15 Castleknock 0-10, 14:30
